PICU and Retrieval Registrar

Role Description:

To provide medical care and receive training in intensive care medicine within a tertiary children’s hospital.

The case-mix of QCH provides registrars with exposure to the full range of subspecialties including neuro-intensive care, trauma & burns, cardiac intensive care and ECLS, liver transplant, and oncology and BMT.

In addition, registrars will rotate through the Paediatric Retrieval Service (CHQRS).

As a PICU and retrieval registrar at QCH you will have:

  • Protected education time
  • Support for quality improvement and research projects with the Paediatric Critical Care Research Group
  • Access to courses including Paeds Basic, Advanced Paediatric Intensive Care Simulation (APICS), the ECLS course, and the Helicopter Underwater Escape Training (HUET)
  • The opportunity to develop specific interests by engaging with one of our unit special interest groups, or consultants with special interests, including: End of life, Organ donation and Ethics; Wellbeing; Retrieval Medicine; Cardiac & ECLS; Liberation; Neuro-intensive care; Social Club Committee

Role Description: The Clinical Director (Intensive Care) provides strategic, clinical, and operational leadership for Intensive Care services at Bundaberg Hospital within the Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service (WBHHS). The role is responsible for ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality, and sustainable critical care services through contemporary models of care, strong clinical governance, workforce leadership and effective collaboration across the health service.

The position provides professional oversight and leadership of clinical services and activities, together with high-quality administrative management of the Intensive Care Unit. The Clinical Director is responsible for ensuring the provision of specialist adult intensive care services of the highest possible quality and will provide a specialist clinical consultant service to Bundaberg Hospital, alongside expert advice in the planning, development and future direction of intensive care services.

Cairns Hospital is seeking a highly experienced specialist clinician to take on the inaugural role of Clinical Director – Trauma Service, providing strategic, clinical and operational leadership in establishing a new multidisciplinary regional Trauma Service.

Cairns Hospital manages a growing volume of complex trauma patients from across the Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service and the Torres and Cape Hospital and Health Service.   • Total remuneration value of up to $528,464 (L27) is comprised of a salary between $251,527 - $266,677 (L25-L27).
