The Assessments Committee is responsible for the implementation and
oversight of all trainee/SIMG assessments. It ensures assessments
are fair, valid, and aligned with educational standards. The
committee provides advice to the Board on assessment policy,
supports examiner training, and contributes to curriculum renewal.

Examination Subcommittees
The First Part, Second Part (General) and Second Part (Paediatric)
Subcommittees are responsible for the coordination and quality
assurance of the exams. The committees manage examiner
coordination and training, syllabus mapping, standard setting and
blue printing processes to ensure fairness and academic integrity.
The committees contribute to policy development, curriculum
alignment and advises Board regarding examinations, including
delivery.

The WBA subcommittee has been established to oversee the
continuous quality improvement of the workplace-based assessments
which are part of the program of assessment for the College

workplace competency assessments, observed clinical encounters and
echocardiography assessments. The WBA Subcommittee reports to the

Censors Committee (including its associated Subcommittees)
The Censor Committee is responsible for overseeing key aspects of
the training program and trainee progression. It provides oversight
of admission into the training program through the Trainee Selection
Panel and assessment of Specialist International Medical Graduates
(SIMG's) through the SIMG Committee. The Committees main functions
include prospective and retrospective approval of training terms,
approval of Transition Year roles, monitoring trainee performance
and progression and addressing requests from trainees who require
special consideration.

SIMG Subcommittee
The SIMG Subcommittee is responsible for reviewing and assessing
applications from overseas trained intensive care specialists for
the purposes of specialist recognition in Australia as an
intensive care specialist. The SIMG Subcommittee is also
responsible for carrying out the duties of the College as the
Vocational Education and Advisory Body (VEAB) in the process of
SIMG applications from Aoteaora New Zealand and Te Kaunihera Rata
o Aotearoa (Medical Council of New Zealand).

Culture Program Subcommittee
Culture Program Subcommittee
The aim of the Culture Program subcommittee is to develop and
implement a binational culture program that aims to improve
intensive care organisational culture through development of
leadership and teamwork capability. The main activities include
creating a shared understanding of what a positive ICU culture
looks like, supporting a more diverse and well distributed
workforce, gathering evidence on how culture affects patient care,
testing how leadership programs impact ICU performance and
provides guidance on workforce, education, and accreditation
activities where organisational culture has significant impact. It
reports to the Professional Affairs Committee.
Finance, Audit and Risk Management Committee
The Finance, Audit and Risk Management Committee helps to guide and
monitor CICM’s financial operations, risk management, investments,
and legal compliance. It supports the Board by overseeing finances,
improving internal controls, managing risks, and ensuring the
College meets its legal responsibilities.
Hospital Accreditation Committee
The Hospital Accreditation Committee is responsible for reviewing,
assessing and accrediting hospitals for the delivery of intensive
care medicine training. The Committee conducts this assessment and
accreditation as an ongoing process, with formal scheduled
assessments occurring at a maximum of five-yearly intervals.
Additionally, the Committee monitors quality assurance activities to
ensure sites maintain ongoing compliance with accreditation
standards. The process provides an opportunity to identify and
address any challenges constructively, ensuring that the College and
training providers provide a safe and effective environment for
training an intensive care medical workforce to meet the needs of
the population they serve.

The Indigenous Health Committee oversees the College’s
commitment to improve health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres
Strait Islander, Māori, and Pasifika peoples across Australia and
Aotearoa New Zealand. It supports the recruitment and retention of
Indigenous doctors in intensive care medicine, promotes cultural
safety and capability among Fellows and Trainees, and ensures
Indigenous voices are heard and respected throughout the
College’s work.

Regional Rural and Remote Committee
The Regional, Rural and Remote Committee supports the
College’s strategic commitment to delivering high quality
intensive care in non-metropolitan areas. It focuses on improving
education, workforce support, trainee welfare, and healthcare
delivery in resource limited ICUs. Members are not required to work
in rural or remote settings but should have relevant experience or
interest in advancing the committee’s objectives, including
areas like climate change and disaster management. The Committee
also is responsible for progressing strategies to address workforce
supply and distribution issues, including the recruitment of
intensivists to underserved ICUs.
