Together Outback: Nowhere to go but never alone
Building a community of regional critical care.
Regional Australia is vast. It comprises 98% of the land mass and is the home to more than 8 million Australians. It is the place of hopes and dreams, of drought and despair, of health and illness, and boundless opportunity.
Nowhere else is the interface between critical care and the community as close. Critical care services are both parachute and safety net for regional Australians, and those who travel through it. When they are unwell, critical care clinicians step forward and provide life sustaining treatment, on occasions in ways that are out of their comfort zones. For both patient and clinician when critical care is required in regional Australia there is quite literally nowhere to go.
Alice Springs will host the second CICM regional critical care meeting on the 25th and 26th June 2020 with support from the Commonwealth Government Specialist Training Program. Following the successful 2019 Darwin Conference - Never Alone - this conference continues to forge a community of regional critical care. Alice truly lies in the heart of Australia and epitomises everything that is regional. Together we will explore clinical science, questions about what it means to be a regional critical care clinician, our fears, our dreams our hopes, and, together in the outback you will be reminded that you are never completely alone.
