Subscribe to the new 'Foundation Research Review

The Intensive Care Foundation invites you to subscribe to the new Foundation Research Review.

A bi-annual electronic newsletter that will keep you informed on the latest status and outcomes of Foundation-funded research projects, the Review will also ensure you are across key dates for the Foundation's grant rounds and educational events.

Subscribing to the Review is a great way to support the Foundation which has funded over 100 research projects and awarded more than $3 million in research grants and early career support since 2000. The Foundation is recognised as the funder of choice for novice researchers in the intensive care research community in Australia and New Zealand and is proud to have contributed to launching the careers of distinguished researchers through funding important feasibility studies and clinical trials.

Subscriptions are $500 per annum, tax deductible (depending upon your circumstances), or may be eligible expenditure under your annual professional development allowance.

ANZICS Committees seeking Trainee Representatives

ANZICS is calling for Expressions of Interest from all ANZICS Trainee Members for Representative roles on all of the Standing Committees.

At the recent ANZICS Board Meeting, the Society recognized the need to embrace Trainees within the intensive care profession. A decision was made to create a Trainee Representative role on all ANZICS Committees. Trainee Members are invaluable in representing the views of the next generation of Specialists and are also the future leaders of the Society.

Trainee Representatives from all of the Committees will form a new Committee and elect a Representative from within the group to sit on the ANZICS Board.

• CORE (Centre for Research and Outcome Evaluation)
• Safety and Quality
• CTG (Clinical Trials Group)
• DODC (Death and Organ Donation)
• PricE (Practice, Risk and Economics)

All ANZICS Trainee Members are invited to submit their expression of interest for their preferred Committee via email to anzics@anzics.com.au by June 10th.

In order for your Expression of Interest to be eligible, you will need to be a current Trainee member of the Society. The membership form can be found on the ANZICS website.

ANZICS Clinical Trials Group Early Career Investigator Award

The award is presented to the clinician who presents the best project presented at an ANZICS CTG meeting in the preceding two years ( 1 March – 28 February).

The essential criteria are the clinician must be:
1.	The principle investigator
2.	Less than eight years from fellowship
3.	An Australian or New Zealand citizen or permanent resident
4.	It is expected the project will be a clinical trial that makes a significant contribution to intensive care medicine- retrospective audits and case reports are not eligible

Clinicians must self-nominate, at the time of requesting to present at CTG meeting, by completing the application form on the Clinical Trials Group website.

Survey:

Survey of Australian and New Zealand Intensive Care doctors' attitudes, perceptions and self reported end-of-life care practice regarding organ donation after circulatory death (DCD)

This survey has been endorsed by the ANZICS Committee on Death and Organ Donation, and by the Australian Organ and Tissue Authority.

There is an increasing demand for organ donations in Australia and New Zealand with around 1500 people on the Australian organ transplant list at any one time. Intensive care doctors are vital to the donation after circulatory death (DCD) process. This survey aims to capture the experience, attitudes and perceptions and self-reported end-of-life palliative care practice of Australian and New Zealand intensive care doctors in the context of DCD.

The survey takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. Participation in this study is voluntary. The survey is anonymous and you will not be asked to provide your name. Only aggregate data will be used for presentation and publication of the results.

We thank you for your time and attention to this study. The results of the survey may have implications for medical education, inter-professional communication and inform medical professionals and policy makers involved in organ donation to assess and improve the delivery of end-of-life care in the context of DCD.

Communications Course Perth

The program includes planning and conducting family meetings, verbal skills, breaking bad and catastrophic news and also includes interactive role plays with professional actors. 2016 Fellow Education Workshops

The College launched a series of Fellow Education Workshops in 2015 and following the success of these, dates and locations for 2016 have been confirmed below. These workshops are a chance for Fellows to discuss trainees in their region, participate in calibration activities while providing the opportunity to discuss the training program with other Fellows in the same region. PAEDIATRIC BASIC COURSE - Register Today

Paediatric BASIC is a 2 day interactive course comprising lectures, workshops and skills stations covering the basic knowledge and skills.

The course is also suitable for;
• Registrars with experience in Adult Intensive Care, who are considering working in PICU or in regional intensive care units where they may be involved in resuscitation , stabilization (often prior to transport to a tertiary centre).
