TGA Statutory Advisory Committee Vacancies February 2014
14th February 2014

The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) is currently undertaking a recruitment process to fill membership vacancies across the following statutory advisory committees:

·        The Advisory Committee on the Safety of Medical Devices (ACSMD)
·        The Advisory Committee on the Safety of Medicines (ACSOM)
·        Therapeutic Goods Committee (TGC)

These committees provide independent expert advice to the Minister for Health and to the TGA on specific scientific and technical matters, which aids the TGA’s regulatory decision making and other regulatory processes. The TGA is seeking expressions of interest from experts who have expertise in relevant clinical or scientific fields or appropriate consumer issues and want to contribute to the regulation of therapeutic goods in Australia. Terms of appointment are for a period of up to three years, commencing in mid to late 2014.

As part of the TGA's targeted approach to promoting these vacancies, we are contacting relevant professional associations, academic institutions, industry bodies, key stakeholder groups and other prominent health experts and identified individuals to ensure appropriate reach and diversity. To support the TGA in this approach, we are seeking your assistance in communicating these vacancies within your membership networks and wider channels as you consider appropriate.

For your information, an advertisement was placed in the Weekend Australian newspaper on Saturday 1 February, as well as on the TGA website. Applications must be received by 5pm (AEST) Monday 3 March 2014.  Further information on the positions and instructions for submitting expressions of interest are available on the TGA website at:

New Fellows' Conference
21st March 2011
The 2011 New Fellows' Conference will be run in Canberra from 31 May to 2 June.  The Conference is aimed at Fellows who are within 3 years of graduation, and is intended to encourage the flow of ideas on various issues encountered in the training and practice of intensive care medicine.

The Conference numbers are kept low (around 16 delegates) in order to foster a relaxed and open environment that allows delegates to discuss issues openly.  This is also facilitated by avoiding the overuse of didactic lectures and designing a program that includes debates, role playing and group work to develop strategies to deal with common problems.  The Conference will start on Tuesday evening with a social event that allows delegates to meet one another over a good meal and wine.
Past delegates have found the Conference very rewarding and frequently recommended it to colleagues.
If you are eligible to attend you would have already received a letter in the mail inviting you to apply.  If you intend to apply it is recommended that you do so quickly as places are limited to 2 Fellows from each region, and the quota for several states is already full.
Please contact Laura Fernandez-Low if you would like further information.

Medical Board Registration
24th September 2010
Renew your Medical Board registration by September 30, 2010.

This is a reminder to all CICM Fellows to renew your medical registration by 30th September 2010. The Medical Board of Australia have announced a late fee of $325 will be charged to those who have not renewed by this date.
The Medical Board has released the following statement on their website regarding who needs to renew:
The Board is now sending registration renewal notices to medical practitioners with general, specialist, limited or non-practising registration in Victoria, Tasmania, the ACT and South Australia.
Most Queensland medical practitioners renewed their registration with the Medical Board of Queensland by 30 June 2010 and are now registered until 30 June 2011.
Registration renewal for many medical practitioners in NSW is linked to the practitioner's birthdate and these renewal reminders will be sent out progressively as they are due.
Western Australia (WA) has not yet joined the national scheme, so practitioners registered in WA will renew this year with the Medical Board of Western Australia and are expected to transition to national registration later in 2010.
The registration renewal period for practitioners with Limited Registration is linked to the anniversary of their initial registration and therefore varies throughout the year.
