Intensive Care Foundation - Expressions of Interest for Membership of Scientific Review Commitee
20th May 2011
Expressions of Interest for Membership of Scientific Review Committee
The Intensive Care Foundation (ICF) is a charity dedicated to increasing the number of lives saved in intensive care by raising funds for clinical research as well and the education of health professionals responsible for intensive care.
Annually, the ICF offer research grants to successful applicants based on a merit system after thorough peer review process. This is managed by a Scientific Review Committee independent of the ICF. Final recommendations are presented to the Board of Directors for approval.
The ICF is seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified intensive care practitioners and other suitably qualified clinicians who are interested of becoming members of the ICF Scientific Review Committee.
The role of the Scientific Review Committee (SRC) is to ensure a transparent, independent and fair assessment of all research projects through a peer review process. The SRC will engage assessors and reviewers with subject matter expertise for grant applications as appropriate.
The Committee will be supported by dedicated Admin Assistant, is expected to meet face to face at least once a year and manage most other business via electronic and teleconferences as appropriate.
There is more than one position available including an independent non-intensivist member to be filled.

New Fellows' Conference
21st March 2011
The 2011 New Fellows' Conference will be run in Canberra from 31 May to 2 June. The Conference is aimed at Fellows who are within 3 years of graduation, and is intended to encourage the flow of ideas on various issues encountered in the training and practice of intensive care medicine.
The Conference numbers are kept low (around 16 delegates) in order to foster a relaxed and open environment that allows delegates to discuss issues openly. This is also facilitated by avoiding the overuse of didactic lectures and designing a program that includes debates, role playing and group work to develop strategies to deal with common problems. The Conference will start on Tuesday evening with a social event that allows delegates to meet one another over a good meal and wine.
Past delegates have found the Conference very rewarding and frequently recommended it to colleagues.
If you are eligible to attend you would have already received a letter in the mail inviting you to apply. If you intend to apply it is recommended that you do so quickly as places are limited to 2 Fellows from each region, and the quota for several states is already full.
Please contact Laura Fernandez-Low if you would like further information.

Medical Board Registration
24th September 2010
Renew your Medical Board registration by September 30, 2010.
This is a reminder to all CICM Fellows to renew your medical registration by 30th September 2010. The Medical Board of Australia have announced a late fee of $325 will be charged to those who have not renewed by this date.
The Medical Board has released the following statement on their website regarding who needs to renew:
The Board is now sending registration renewal notices to medical practitioners with general, specialist, limited or non-practising registration in Victoria, Tasmania, the ACT and South Australia.
Most Queensland medical practitioners renewed their registration with the Medical Board of Queensland by 30 June 2010 and are now registered until 30 June 2011.
Registration renewal for many medical practitioners in NSW is linked to the practitioner's birthdate and these renewal reminders will be sent out progressively as they are due.
Western Australia (WA) has not yet joined the national scheme, so practitioners registered in WA will renew this year with the Medical Board of Western Australia and are expected to transition to national registration later in 2010.
The registration renewal period for practitioners with Limited Registration is linked to the anniversary of their initial registration and therefore varies throughout the year.
